Aliens vs Predator: Requiem (2007)
½ — Aliens vs Predator: Requiem (2007)
The directing duo of Colin and Greg Strause (working under the banner Brothers Strause) came to this from a background in visual effects work, with credits on films like 300 and X-Men: The Last Stand, making Requiem their feature debut. The film is a direct sequel to Paul W.S. Anderson's 2004 Aliens vs. Predator, itself a crossover drawing on two of Fox's most valuable science-fiction franchises, and the studio pushed this follow-up into R-rated territory after criticism that the first film was too tame. Shot largely in Cloverdale, British Columbia, doubling for small-town Colorado, it arrived at the tail end of a mid-2000s cycle of franchise crossovers and sequel expansions that Fox was banking on to keep both the Alien and Predator properties commercially viable.
I'd say it's one of the worst movies I've ever seen but you can't bloody see anything. This is a shameless cash-grab that somehow manages to make the first AVP look like a masterpiece in comparison. The plot is nonsensical, the characters are utterly forgettable, and the film is drenched in darkness literally, you can barely see half of what’s going on. The action is poorly choreographed, the CGI is atrocious, and the direction is all over the place. It’s like they took everything bad from both the Alien and Predator franchises and mashed them together into one incoherent mess. I can’t even call this a guilty pleasure, it’s just a chore to sit through. Complete waste of time.
