For Filmakers, Festivals and Publicists

I'm Macca (Ross McLaren), and I write Movies With Macca, a film review site with a particular soft spot for world cinema. If you have a film, a festival or a release you would like covered, this page explains what I do and how to get it in front of me.

What this site is

Movies With Macca is a film review site built on proper, long-form writing. Instead of a star rating and a line, every review takes its time: the history, the people, how a film got made, and an honest verdict at the end. There are over 1,400 reviews here, a new one goes up every day, and you can browse the whole archive by country, decade, genre, director and rating.

I am known for one thing in particular. I set out to watch and review a film from every country on Earth, and I finished it, one film at a time. That habit stuck. World and independent cinema, the films most outlets never make room for, are what I care about most.

What I cover

  • World and independent cinema from anywhere, the further off the beaten track the better
  • New releases, festival titles and premieres
  • Restorations, re-releases and home media, including Blu-ray and physical editions
  • The canons and best-of lists, from Sight and Sound to the Palme d'Or and Best Picture winners

If your film is in a language other than English, or comes from a country that rarely gets a look in, you are exactly who I want to hear from.

What you are welcome to send

  • Screeners: online press links, Vimeo, festival press portals, or physical media
  • Festival press accreditation and access to online screening libraries
  • Premiere and e-premiere invitations
  • Review copies of physical releases

Why have it covered here

  • One consistent voice, not a rota of freelancers. A reader who likes one review gets the same writer on the next.
  • Real depth. Each film gets a full essay rather than a couple of throwaway lines, and every piece is written to keep earning readers long after release, through search and internal linking.
  • A genuine world-cinema focus that larger, generalist outlets rarely have the room for.
  • Coverage that travels: the site, a weekly newsletter, Letterboxd, and social channels.
  • Sought out: festivals, international sales agents and distributors send screeners and review invitations directly, so your film keeps good company.

Where my writing appears

Alongside this site, my film writing has appeared at Asian Movie Pulse and CinemaWaves, and I have covered festivals with press accreditation from Raindance, the Muslim International Film Festival and the Cinecittà Italian Doc Season.

How I work

I review on merit and I write honestly, so I cannot promise a particular verdict, only a fair and considered one. I do not run paid or sponsored reviews. Where a film is available to watch I sometimes add affiliate links, always clearly disclosed, and they never shape the opinion. Turnaround is quick and I am glad to work to an embargo.
