The Barn Dance (1929)
★★ — The Barn Dance (1929)
Released in 1929 by Walt Disney Productions, The Barn Dance is a Mickey Mouse short from the earliest, still-forming years of the character's existence. Mickey had debuted only the previous year in Steamboat Willie (1928), the cartoon widely credited as the first synchronised sound animated short, so these early entries were very much Disney and his small team finding their feet with the new technology. At just seven minutes, the film sits comfortably within the programme of short subjects that cinemas of the era relied upon to fill bills alongside features. Pete, who appears here as Mickey's romantic rival, is actually one of Disney's oldest recurring characters, predating Mickey himself by several years.
1929 Walt Disney short. Watched this with my 7 year old son. He didn't like this one as much, especially when Minnie Mouse tied her long legs up and cut a bit off. Animation was a little ropey in places. Soundtrack good
