Genre History

History on film ranges from the sincerely researched to the gloriously mythologised, and both modes can produce great cinema. Alain Resnais's Night and Fog remains one of the most morally serious short films ever made, while Kurosawa's Ran shows how feudal Japan could become a lens for timeless tragedy.
