Shattered (2025)
★ — Shattered (2025)
Shattered is a British-Spanish horror anthology, produced across five short films by a collaborative team of four directors: William Brooke, John Ferrer, Arla Piacentini, and Judson Vaughan, with Judson Vaughan also appearing in the cast. The film comes out of a loose collective of micro-budget independent outfits, Cine Circle, Dragon Egg Films, and THIS Guy Produces, working across the UK and Spain. Anthology horror has enjoyed a persistent, modest revival in low-budget independent circles since the V/H/S series popularised the format in the early 2010s, and Shattered sits squarely within that tradition, running to a tight 81 minutes across its five segments. None of the four directors carry a particularly extensive prior filmography, making this something of a calling-card production for all involved.
1ST REVIEW ON LETTERBOXD Shattered Cine circle films asked me to review this movie. Well it's an anthology of 5x short horror movies (they're not all horror though) 1-star review This first short was about a chef who murders people who give poor reviews and then changes the reviews on their phones. The premise is pretty far fetched but it makes sense. The camera quality was good. I'm a bit worried about my review though so it gets a perfect 5*. 5* Burn This was a mystery about a murderer who eventually "opted out" and how the mother and child tried to pick up the pieces of their lives. It was a decent short with a nice twist. Good acting all round. I think this was better than the first one. 2.5* The Verge Climate change has ruined the world and people are being evacuated from the earth. 2086 London. 3 women are told "get to the top of the skyscraper first and your match will be waiting for you" This one had 80s synth style music throughout and a really weird parlour martial arts choreography. Nothing horror about this one. 2* Hold me till the end Looks like it's a story of a woman who keeps killing herself over and over every day and the woman she lives with lives the day over and over again groundhog day style. All the while trying to stop the other woman from killing herself in all these different ways. I was quite confused by the most of it but it made sense in the end. Not really a horror. More of a psychological thriller. 3* Re-birth The twin of a woman has died. A mysterious autopsy guy says "there may still be hope for your sister" The acting from the lead was the best in all of these shorts so far. I didn't really understand what was going on for the most part. Turns out vampires. 2.5* In conclusion... These were all seemingly low budget shorts from the UK that didn't really have any sort of cohesion. Luckily for me I'm a fan of grindhouse. This is certainly modern grindhouse. If these were made in the 70s we'd be saying "remember that classic" I've gotta be as fair as I can with this one. If 2.5* is average, 3* is above average and 3.5* is good. Overall... I'd say a 3.5* is fair. The Verge brings it all down for me as it's totally so different from the others.
