By 1997, George A. Romero was something of a zombie authority for hire, and Capcom leaned into that reputation by commissioning him to direct a pair of live-action television commercials for the Japanese launch of Resident Evil 2 (known domestically as Biohazard 2). This is the second of those spots, a one-minute piece shot in America with a modest cast that includes Brad Renfro (then riding reasonable teen-star momentum following The Client and Sleepers) and Adrienne Frantz. The budget of $1.5 million for a minute of advertising footage is, by any reasonable measure, extraordinary, and reflects both Capcom's ambitions for the sequel and the premium placed on Romero's name as a marketing asset in Japan's booming survival-horror game market.
