Zombie Island Massacre (1984)
½ — Zombie Island Massacre (1984)
Zombie Island Massacre is a Troma Entertainment production from 1984, which tells you a fair amount before a single frame has played. Troma, the low-budget New York outfit co-founded by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, had spent much of the early 1980s building a reputation for cheerfully disreputable horror-comedies (The Toxic Avenger arrived the following year and became their signature work). Director John Carter is not a figure with much of a filmography to trace, and this remains his most visible credit. The film's chief claim to any cultural footnote is its lead actress, Rita Jenrette, a former Washington socialite whose tabloid notoriety following a congressional scandal made her a minor celebrity of that particular moment in early-1980s American public life.
I was distinctly promised zombies. Awful film.
