The Beginning (2022)

Albert Blay's short film is a Catalan production supported by Diputació Tarragona and made through Pijama Studio, running at just fourteen minutes and focused almost entirely on a single conversation between two young people at the end of a first relationship. Short-form filmmaking of this kind, personal and low-resource, has long been a training ground for Spanish-language directors working within regional film cultures, and Catalonia in particular has a modest but active ecosystem for emerging talent. The film stars Marc Soler and Maria Borrell Gomà, and its confined, dialogue-driven format places considerable weight on the two performers to carry what is essentially a two-hander set against the backdrop of a railway station farewell.

A-Z World Movie Tour Myanmar FIRST REVIEW ON LETTERBOXD! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kq1wdTYgxR4 I had to watch this twice to understand what the beginning segment was all about, and I'm still not sure I understand. TW - Suicide Someone at the beginning is shown hanging themselves (off-screen but you can tell). What follows then is a group of people sat around a table talking about the political and social situation in Myanmar. It's probably worth doing some research because this movie assumes you have at least basic understanding of the current and historic situation in Myanmar. Part of me things this isn't acting, this is real people talking about their experiences and thoughts. Overall, it's kind of a hard film to review. I'm going to have to go straight down the middle and give it 2.5*
