Cinema in the 2020s has been defined by disruption: streaming upended theatrical habits, the pandemic forced a rethink of what a film release even means, and audiences have increasingly embraced subtitled films like How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies alongside big animation and documentary work. Macca's reviews from the decade reflect that breadth. Browse what he's made of it below.

My dad was never one for splashing out unnecessarily, but Prince Naseem Hamed's pay-per-view fights were a different matter entirely. I can still picture it now: the two of us squeezed onto the sofa, watching this flamboyant, impossibly cocky kid from Sheffield float into the ring

I'll be honest: I came into this one expecting to be bored stiff. I'd already sat through Who Killed Captain Alex? and Bad Black, and neither of them did anything for me. I get why people go wild for Wakaliwood. A shoestring budget, an enormous ambition,

There's a line, even in a franchise built on monsters shooting lightning from their cheeks and evolving via friendship. Pokémon: The Arceus Chronicles vaults clean over it, lands on the other side, and seems perfectly happy about the whole thing. I came to this with reasonable expectations. I

There is a specific, suffocating tension to the opening sequence of Leigh Whannell's 2020 reimagining of The Invisible Man that had me genuinely on the edge of my seat. Watching Cecilia, played by a brilliant Elisabeth Moss, execute a breathless, nail-biting escape from the sprawling, high-tech

There's a moment in Salaryman that stopped me cold, and not in a good way. The director, Allegra Pacheco, finds men in suits completely unconscious on the pavement, felled by sheer exhaustion after brutal shifts that blur into nights that blur into days. And rather than let that

I will be the first to admit that my viewing habits can lead me down some genuinely strange rabbit holes, and The Golden Spurtle is about as deep into the rabbit hole as I have ever gone. A documentary about the World Porridge Championships. I watched it. I watched all

That artillery. Good grief, that artillery. Within the first few minutes of Edward Berger's 2022 adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front, the sound design alone is doing something almost physical to you. It doesn't rumble so much as detonate somewhere behind your eyes, and

If you've ever wondered what happens when you take the saccharine, paint-by-numbers formula of a daytime television romance and transplant it to the Middle East, Elie El Semaan's Honeymoonish has your answer. And spoiler: the answer is not as interesting as you'd

There's a very specific kind of tired that sets in when you're watching a film and you realise, about fifteen minutes in, that absolutely nothing surprising is going to happen. That's the feeling that settled over me watching Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the

I went into Dahomey completely blind, and the subject matter alone was enough to get me genuinely excited. The repatriation of 26 royal artefacts from France back to Benin, some 130 years after they were looted during colonial conquest. That's a story with real weight behind it, the
