Explorer from Another World is a micro-budget independent production from Piranha Drama, written, directed by, and starring Woody Edwards, who appears to have shot the film in and around Indiana with a cast that includes what looks to be a genuine family unit (Nolan and Harper Gay sharing the surname is unlikely to be coincidence). At a lean 45 minutes, the film sits comfortably in the tradition of homespun regional sci-fi, a mode that stretches back to the drive-in pictures of the 1950s, when small American towns and alien visitors were practically a genre unto themselves. The tagline, poking fun at Indiana as a setting, suggests the production is fully self-aware about its own place in that lineage.

An homage to the B movies of the 50s I watched this because it was 45 minutes long and that's all the time I had. It's in the realms of "so bad it's good" here. It's deliberately cheesy, corny, over acted, poorly dubbed, great gore scenes etc... the colour schemes and vibrant wigs and make up make this whole thing just a heap of fun, even if ultimately it does feel just like a high school project with a small team of a few people. Impossible not to like, just not gonna win any awards
