The Morricone Duel: The Most Dangerous Concert Ever (2018)

Ennio Morricone (1928-2020) composed well over 400 scores across a career spanning six decades, working with Sergio Leone, Brian De Palma, Roland Joffé and countless others, and his music had long since crossed over from cinema into the concert hall by the time this Danish production captured one such event on film. Directed by Karsten Andersen and released in 2018 through EuroArts, a label specialising in filmed classical and opera performances, the documentary is essentially a concert film: a live recording of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra performing Morricone arrangements in Copenhagen, conducted by Sarah Hicks, with additional pieces by Bernard Herrmann and Nino Rota woven into the programme. The title's claim of danger is a playful nod to the Leone aesthetic rather than any literal peril.

Arguably the best soundtrack composer of all time
